Problems were reported by many users who used Redsn0w 0.9.1b1. Anyway dev team has taken care of this in the latest version with the introduction of the support for all types of NOR chip. Redsn0w 0.9.1b1 only supported iPhone 3G/3GS which has a kind of NOR chip in them but the latest version supports all other chips. Like the previous versions, Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 also offers an easy jailbreak solution. Below given are the steps to use this tool.

  • At first have a backup of all the files.
  • Connect the device to your PC via USB cable and click the Jailbreak button.
  • Select the Downgrade from iPad option and proceed.
  • Then Redsn0w will give you instructions to enter DFU mode. Do it right and you are home.

If you are using the DFU IPSW option you must select the ipsw file and enter DFU.

Once you have that, you should update to the latest iOS 6 beta 2 and then run Redsn0w like earlier, but pointing to the first beta ipsw. You will get your device jailbroken. And you should keep in mind about the compatibility issues of the apps, Cydia, Cydia products etc with iOS 6.

One of iOS 6 main features is the new Twitter widget. A tap on the widget displays a tweet menu and you can type whatever is there in your mind. Now this widget can be made available on your jailbroken iOS 5.x also, with a free jailbreak widget called “iOS 6 Twitter Widget for Notification Center”, developed by Mathieu Hendey.

This widget imitates the iOS 6 widget only to an extend, but there are some differences if we compare it with the original one on iOS 6. One is the difference in the Twitter logo, the widget in iOS 6 uses the old twitter logo while the one in iOS 5 uses Twitter’s new logo. Another main difference is that this jailbreak widget doesn’t support Facebook as iOS 5 doesn’t arrive with Facebook integration.

Anyway all this differences can be considered negligible as it enables you to get a bit of iOS 6 experience on iOS 5.
