iOS 5.0.1 Poses Threat to iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

The whole of the jailbreaking community is waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 to come out. And here is something to add to your notice about it.

Yesterday, Chronic Dev Team member pod2g came up with an announcement that he has found a bug in iOS 5 which would untether it and that they’ll be working on it and will be releasing it soon.

iOS 5.0.1 Poses Threat to iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

And now, pod2g has pointed out something else too. You should not update to iOS 5.0.1, else you’ll not be able o untether the jailbreak on iOS 5.

The reason behind his statement is that the bug fixes in iOS 5.0.1 update closes the exploits that are found on iOS 5 which makes untethered jailbreak possible on it.

This is what he said through his tweet :

Note about 5.0.1 : don’t update if you plan on jbking : the bug Charlie MILLER found can simplify exploits dramatically and will be closed.

So, once you are on iOS 5.0.1, you’ll have to wait for another exploit to be put into work to make untethered jailbreak possible on it.

Which firmware are you on? Will you be taking the risk and moving forward once iOS 5.0.1 releases publicly? Let us know through your comments.
